Life in Vietnam would be perfect if everyone were totally equal. Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer in complete sentences.
-I disagree because if everything is equal then there won’t be any development for the country because no one is smarter than another. There also won’t be any entertainment because there’s no one that’s more interesting than another. So total equality will brings lots of bad consequences.
You are designing a society in which everyone is equal. What are the laws?
_Everyone must have education. If it’s out of their reach, the government will provide full school fee financial aid.
_Everyone must have food and drinks.
_Everyone must have a shelter. Or if one can’t afford a house, there will always be space for them to live in free apartments run by the government.
_All children must treat their parent nicely. No one can let their parent become beggars on the street. Government can help to improve citizens’ lives so there’s no reason why seniors should be put to work.
What would you do to help people who were less capable mentally, physically, or socially to “catch up”
_I might provide free education, free physical health training, and socialize clubs for everyone to join if they’re having need to fit in more with the society.
What problems can you foresee that might come in a society with laws that force “equality for all”? How would you handle those problems?
_The biggest problem I might have to face is the rebellion from a group of citizens with different idea about “equality for all”. If there’s a rebellion from the citizens, I might have a civilized talk with the leader of the group first and see what is the best solution for both sides.
Do you believe that total equality is possible, or would human nature make sure that some people would eventually dominate others?
_ It’s kind of wrong to force citizen all to be the same because everyone was born uniquely in their own way. One is better looking than another. One is smarter than the other. One is stronger than another. So it’s impossible to force everyone to stay on the same level of everything. In conclusion I believe that human nature make sure that some people would eventually dominate others.
In what situations have you felt similarly to any of the characters? What persons, places, or ideas from your own experience came to mind while you were reading this story? Try to list as least two examples.
_ I once felt same like Harrison . It was when I was still in Vietnamese’s public school. The teacher forced us to do exactly same thing all together. We all had to write as beautiful as the one with the best handwriting in class. We get punishments for not having a bad handwriting. And also once, I experienced same thing with George. It was when I’m in a school conference, students are gathered around to participate in what’s the thing school can improve on. When I was about to raise my hand up for idea, the teacher glared at me with a wrathful look. Then I was so scared I forgot what I was about to say.
